The body of a 52-year-old Lihu‘e man was recovered from the pool at the bottom of ‘Opaeka‘a Falls in Wailua Friday afternoon, county officials said.

Hawai‘i’s U.S. Rep. from 1963 to 1977 and U.S. Senator for 13 years beginning in 1977, Spark Masayuki Matsunaga (1916-1990) was born at McBryde Sugar Co.’s Kukuiula Camp and moved to Puolo Road in Hanapepe in the early 1920s after his father hired on as a stevedore at nearby Port Allen.

Gateball heads to Kohala

Several members of the Kaua‘i Gateball Club traveled to the Big Island for a home and home series with the Kohala Gateball Club. The round robin series of games was held at the Kamehameha Park Complex located in Kohala. Teams participating were Kohala, Kaua‘i, Waikoloa and Kohala-Kaua‘i mix. A small dedication of the field was held in memory of Garett Pasco, a founding member of the Kohala Club, who passed away recently. The Kaua‘i Club presented a scoreboard to the Kohala Club in appreciation for their invitation to this event. A banquet was also held at the Kohala Senior Center. Karaoke, skits, dancing, food and fellowship was enjoyed by everyone.

Challenging the chair

The Kaua‘i County Council has been chaired by Kaipo Asing except for a brief period since 2002. It has been evident that the council under his stewardship has been an increasingly autocratically controlled body with considerable disregard for the rights of the other council members and a near total disregard for information flow to the public.
